During the early 1960s, major recording studios released a number of very high quality pre-recorded open reel versions of their stereo LPs. According to Columbia Masterworks,

"Stereo tape...unquestionably the finest method of reproducing music in your home. In addition to the living excitement of stereo in high fidelity sound, stereo tape never wears out, never scratches, never warps. It provides you with literally endless hours of listening pleasure, giving you tomorrow's sound today!"

This is tomorrow, and our collection of over 500 is in excellent condition. Some have never been played since recorded 30-40 years ago. These are all from analog masters and mixed essentially the same as for the comparable LP issues. The controlled dynamic range makes them particularly suited to video production purposes. Tape hiss has been dynamically eliminated using modern realtime processing and the spectral sound mix of the orchestra has been similarly expanded. These are older oxide formulation tapes that have not suffered from any binder breakdown that plagued 1970s recordings and are on stable acetate base. Time has added some print-through which is generally not noticable.

Modern TEAC X3 used at R-VCR for 4 track tape playback.

This offering is not for audiophile or collector purposes, but a service to fill a real need in video production. In addition to tape we also have a modest collection of remarkable LPs. All R-VCR materials can be copied at insignificant prices.
