KPXN TV30

R-VCR/Larry Dean

Yes there really was a pot of gold inside the former TV 30 studios in Rancho Cucamonga

The previous TV30, KHOF (House of Faith) ended when the Rev. Dr. Eugene Scott managed to so greatly offend the FCC that his television station license was cancelled.

Is:21:2: A grievous vision is declared unto me; the treacherous dealer dealeth treacherously, and the spoiler spoileth. Go up, O Elam: besiege, O Media; all the sighing thereof have I made to cease. (KJV)

Rebuilt as KZKI, the new facility in Rancho Cucamonga began broadcasting in January 1994. The first program was produced by Larry Dean of R-VCR, and the videotape is currently in the massive UCLA film and TV archive. Bud Paxson purchased the station and converted it to all infomercial format. No stranger to local television, Bud had previously purchased KIHS (located only a few blocks away), when it was the outlet for Catholic Church programming and changed it to Home Shopping Club, KHSC. (Is there a pattern here?)

Former FCC Chairman Newton Minnow once predicted that television could become nothing more than "wires in a box". Fifty years later, this 1996 photo of the KPXN studios verifies that Bud Paxson has fulfilled the promise...

The new owner of KPXN is NBC network which is why it replays the Weakest Link show. After a number of office moves and employee purges, KPXN now shares space with KNBC in Burbank. No original KZKI employees work here anymore (see below).

However, the 3rd wife of Rev Gene Scott, self ordained Melissa Scott is now seen preaching on the new ION Network channel 30.

Larry Dean was the last original station employee when he left in February 1998.

The original KZKI staff consisted of-

Cory Benson, VP Atrium Partners representing licensee, Sandino Telecasters. Cory negotiated the sale of station to Lowell "Bud" Paxson.

Jack Moffitt, General Manager, now VP/General Manager WBFX, Greensboro NC.

Darla Mulder, Administrative Assistant. An advertising market researcher now living in San Marcos CA.

Gary Johnson, Chief Engineer. Gary left to be a Kindergarten teacher in Etiwanda CA.
